Cello and vocal driven acoustic folk. Travelin' Light are multi-instrumentalist Mel Watson formerly of the Australian band Fruit, and Corbin Keep, Virtuoso Cellist. Together they create an aural feast of transcendental, "free folk". Incorporating trumpet, soprano saxophone, and flute, Corbin and Mel use improvisation to expand the possibilities of musical expression and live performance, creating an exciting and inspirational musical experience. Formalizing their partnership less than a year ago, Mel & Corbin have harnessed their prolific and accomplished individual creative energies into one incendiary package. Known best for her multi-instrument virtuosity, four octave voice and passionate song writing in the Aussie indie folk sensation Fruit, Mel Watson is a multi-award winning creative dynamo. Her genre-crossing, innovative musical boldness is infectious – supporting and playing along side artists like Michael Frante, Bruce Cockburn, The Neveliie Brothers, Jane Siberry and the great Tommy Emmanuel.- and the force behind he involvement in over 16 independent releases (including four solo) and extensive world-wide touring. Personifying terms like ‘creative’ and ‘inspired’, Mel lives, sleeps and breathes her song. The ‘Wild Cellis’ Corbin Keep brings his own frenetic cello engaging audiences like a master – one moment profound, even spiritual, and the next bursting with spontaneous humor – pushing boundaries and transforming this thickly traditional instrument into a tool for musical experimentation. Travelin’ Light not only bring audiences to their feet, they are poised to turn them upside down.
"I just wanted to say how much I appreciated your soulful singing of Mamma Mamma with the young boy at the Islands Folk Festival on the weekend. Your voice went to the core of my being and I had tears running down my face. I looked over and so did my friend. Thank you thank you."
